Supplies for Scrapbooking

Supplies for Scrapbooking

Before you start scrapbooking, let's go over a list of basic scrapbooking supplies.

  1. A scrapbook, binder, or album to hold your scrapbook pages
  2. Scrapbook paper (you will need a piece, usually 12" x 12" for the base and then other patterned papers for your accents)
  3. Your photos (tip: It's a smart idea to make high-quality copies of all pictures so that you don't have to use the originals in the scrapbook just in case they get damaged.)
  4. Scissors or a paper trimmer
  5. Cutting mat
  6. Adhesive (this can be any archival type, from adhesive guns to glue stick)
  7. Photo corners or squares
  8. Embellishments and related tools (stamps, glitter, paper punches, die cuts, buttons, paper flowers, etc.)
  9. Markers, pens, or other writing utensils
  10. Clear protective sleeves for pages (optional)

If you're wondering where to buy scrapbooking supplies, first check your local craft stores. Chain stores will have a lot of scrapbooking supplies or can usually order anything they are missing. Your boutique card and paper stores may not have as much of a selection but they tend to have unique and trendy options. They can also order things you may not see in the store.

While on the subject of ordering, the internet has just about anything you may want or need, including scrapbooking supplies. You can search popular paper craft brands such as:
  1. Create and Craft
  2. Fiskars
  3. Heartfelt Creations
  4. Lawn Fawn
  5. Leisure Arts
  6. Polyform
  7. Prima Marketing
  8. Quietfire Designs
  9. Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L
  10. Spellbinders
  11. Therm O Web
You can also use any search engine, such as Google or Bing, to find a store selling what you need.

Wow. Lots of scrapbooking ideas. I used to this many years back for my 2 kids. There were not many ready made stickers or decorative items in the market at that time and what I did was to cut out pictures from magazines and other pretty stickers to decorate my kids' albums.

Always looking for some new layout ideas. Love to chronicle our life in a creative way that my kids can look back on with a smile.

Actually I do both. Making my own lets me be creative, but if I see a layout I really like, I use if for inspiration or for picture placement. Most of my layouts are quite simple as I don't have a lot of experience. I miss the scrapbooking magazine of the past and am very glad I found this site with so many good ideas. I have been looking at projects and I'm not sure I understand instructions completely. Would it be possible to add some more or link to a tip page on the site?

I think a scrapbook tip page is a great idea and will work on creating that for the site. In the meantime, if you click on the links, they will take you through to the designer's instructions on creating these layouts. Thanks so much for the feedback! - Krista, editor, AllFreePaperCrafts

I wonder whether you could use different styles in your next scrapbook article.

Thanks for the feedback. We will add more variety for scrapbook layouts in the future. - Krista, Editor, AllFreePaperCrafts

I love using ideas from premade layouts. My favorite in this list is definitely the Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost Layout!
