U R Awesome Foiled Guys Card

Do you ever need a card for a pre-teen or teenage boy and struggle to design something that is appropriate for that age group? Try making a cool handmade card using some colorful rainbow foil, neon glow in the dark Glow Drops and hashtag (#) sentiments like I did in this card and your new DIY card will be perfect for your special boy or young man.

Use this card idea for thank yous, birthdays, graduations, or any other event or achievement for the young adults in your life. With this combination of modern and retro, they'll think it's pretty awesome, too.

Materials List

  • Tonic Studios Canvas Sneaker Die
  • Tonic Studios Awesome Die (from Awesome, Sweet & Cool Set)
  • Tonic Studios U & R from Duo Cap Initials Set
  • Nuvo Shocking Pink, Apple Sour, Banana Split & Blue Crush Glow Drops
  • Therm O Web Rainbow Foil
  • Gina K Designs Hot Dots Foil Mates
  • Laminator (I use Royal Sovereign, but any brand will do)
  • Butterfly Reflections Ink Hashtag Stamps, black ink
  • Black cardstock card base, and bright green, white, and black cardstock scraps
  • Mounting tape
  • Nuvo Deluxe Fine Tip Adhesive

Instructions:

  1. Heat up your laminator according to manufacturer's instructions. Cut a piece of Gina K's Hot Dots Foil-Mates to 5-1/4" by 4".

(Gina K Design's Foil–Mates are patterned papers made with toner so when sent through the laminator with a piece of foil, they create very colorful foiled backgrounds.)

  2. Place a piece of Rainbow Deco Foil over the dotted Foil-Mate in a folded piece of parchment paper (or thin copy weight paper) and send through the heated laminator. The rainbow hues will now be on your colorful background, which can be attached to the black card base.

(Do not throw away the foil piece that remains after transferring the color to the dotted Foil-Mate. That piece can be used for another card and/or for a fun accent inside your card.)

  3. Layer a black piece of cardstock over a lime green piece and die cut Tonic’s Canvas Sneaker out of both. While the pieces are still together, tape the green pieces together on the back with regular tape. Adhere the black sneaker pieces with glue.

  4. Decorate the sneaker with Nuvo Glow Drops and set aside to dry.

  5. Die cut the letters "U" and "R" out of green and black scraps and adhere to the card with glue.

  6. Die cut "awesome" out of green and black scraps, attach them together with the layers slightly offset and adhere to the card.

  7. Adhere the sneaker with mounting tape to raise for dimension.

  8. Stamp the hashtag sentiments with black ink on a white piece of cardstock for the inside of the card.

  9. Attach a colorful rainbow dotted strip made from the leftover foil piece and a Therm O Web toner sheet, and attach the white piece to the center of your card.

Very cool. It has an '80s vibe to it while still being modern.
