Colorful Rose Garden Birthday Card

Of all the card making tutorials around, this stunning DIY birthday card is sure to be one of your favorites. This Colorful Rose Garden Birthday Card is elegant and sweet. This DIY tutorial will give you card making ideas and inspire you to use roses and turtle doves as your inspiration for a beautiful birthday card. This feminine homemade birthday  card features soft hues of silver, blue, and purple. Pretty and unique, this DIY card is sure to be adored by anyone who receives it.
 

Colorful Rose Garden Birthday Card

Materials:

  • 11” x 5.4” light purple marbled cardstock
  • 5.1” square cut from white shimmer cardstock
  • 5” square cut from watercolor paper
  • 1.3” wide round silver resin rose decoration
  • two 1.2” wide silver resin turtle doves
  • 3” long silver medium tassel
  • seven 10mm clear self-adhesive flat-sided rhinestones
  • acrylic paint in the following two colors: true red and powder blue
  • Pilot silver marker pen
  • Artline 210 Fineliner black pen
  • green, dark blue and maroon felt-tip pens
  • paintbrush
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • standard scissors
  • quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
  • small plastic bowl
  • small clear plastic bag
  • paper weight or other heavy object

Instructions:

  1. Score the light purple marble cardstock to create a card sized 5.4” x 5.4”.
     
  2. With the fold at the left, centre and glue the shimmer cardstock to the front of the card.
     
  3. Now make the background for the card:

    a. Cut the plastic bag into small manageable pieces.

    b. Add a drop of blue and red paint to the plastic bowl. Mix the paint to make a soft hue of purple

    c. Paint the watercolor paper square, using a combination of blue and purple paint.

    d. While the paint is still wet, slightly crumple a piece of plastic and add it to the paper. Continue until the whole piece of paper has been covered with plastic.

    e. Use the paperweight to keep the pieces of plastic in position. Allow the paint to dry before removing the pieces of plastic.

    f.  Use the pencil to draw random roses onto the paper. Below is an example of how to draw a simple rose:

    g. Color the outline of the roses with the maroon felt-tip pen and color the stems of the roses with the green pen. Add some shadows with the blue pen.

    h. Add some detail to the roses with the silver and black pens.

    i. Cut a piece sized 4.6” x 4” from the background. Use the silver pen to draw “zig-zag stitches” all around this piece of paper.

    j. Glue this piece of paper to the front of the card.

  4. Glue the tassel on the right, and glue the round silver resin rose decoration in place over the tassel loop.
     
  5. Glue the two doves to the front of the card.
     
  6. Add the rhinestones to finish the card.
