A Note from Ann Martin, designer of this Quilling Flowers and Leaves Tutorial:
My introduction to quilling came about in 2002 when a beautifully photographed article in Martha Stewart Living magazine caught my eye. On-edge flourishes and letters could be created just by rolling and shaping strips of paper... I had no idea! Determined to learn to quill, I immediately gave it a try with strips cut from sheets of computer paper and a cake tester wire from my kitchen drawer. Soon after, I purchased a kit for making gift cards and borrowed quilling books from the library to learn terminology and techniques. Helpful quillers I met via Yahoo groups gave me tips and answered questions.
I often find inspiration for new projects by looking to nature - flowers, leaves, birds, and butterflies are always popular quilling subjects. Actually, though, just about anything can be quilled. One of my favorite projects to date was a quilled ring of keys inspired by a key from an antique Victrola.
My interest in quilling led to many internet searches where I was introduced to a wide variety of paper crafts and paper art. I have always enjoyed writing and teaching, so started my blog, All Things Paper, in 2009 in order to feature these talented paper people, as well as share my own card making ideas, projects, and tutorials.

I never thought I'd ever say a paper craft was elegant but these are indeed! It's so wonderful too when you come across a very accomplished artisan who doesn't forget that there are always people like myself who are stumbling into the art form for the first time or a new generation always on the horizon! This artisan doesn't mind going back to the "basics" to teach. Thank you for sharing this beautiful art with us!
