If you are wondering what to do with old CDs and you want to learn how to make a clock, then the DIY CD Clocks with Printable Faces tutorial is perfect for you! You can choose between an elegant face and a quirky printable clock face.

Paste the clock face onto the CD, assemble the clock mechanism (easily found online or in stores), and set the time. You can attach this clock to an old plate you have no use for anymore, or use it as is. Either way, it's an awesome DIY home decor project that uses upcycled materials and looks awesome.

History of the Clock:

It's amazing that you can make your own clock considering the long history of the clock and how it has changed over time. The first, similar time-measuring device was the sundial that used the movement of Earth and the position of the sun to tell time. Depending on where the sun is in the sky, the dial would cast a shadow showing what hour of the day it was.

Another older version of a clock is the water clock or clepsydrae which was used in Babylon and Egypt in the 16th century. This clock measured the amount of water that flowed into or out of a vessel or pot. There were many developments and innovations to the clock over the years from the mercury timepiece to astronomical clocks.

Pendulum clocks were widely popular upon their invention in 1656, and later developments led to sophisticated quartz and atomic clocks. Now, the technology is so easy to access and understand that you can make your own within the home.

You would definitely have a unique clock if you did this. I think I still have some old CDs stashed away, I would be concerned though, that the Mod Pddge wouldn't hold after awhile, since CD material doesn't lend itself well to glues andI such. It seems to me that any kind of small, lightweight plate would work better. Am I wrong?
