Paper Batik Rose Card
Make a Paper Batik Rose Card with the technique described in this tutorial! Handmade greeting cards like this one are so special because they are so unique. Use a black crayon to draw the outline of a rose. Color the rose with watercolor paint and add some details to the rose petals. This technique can be adjusted to make a wide variety of cards. Use the provided pattern of the rose, or draw your own design. The end result is bound to please the recipient and make her feel special in every possible way.
Materials:
- Printout of Provided Pattern of Rose
- 11.4” x 5.1” Light Blue Marbled Cardstock
- 5.1” x 4.4” Dark Pink Handmade Paper
- 6” x 6” Watercolor Paper
- Pink and Blue Square Grid Washi Tape
- Staedtler 12-color Watercolor Set
- A 10/32” Paint Brush
- A 5/32” Paint Brush
- White Acrylic Paint
- Black Jumbo Crayon
- Raw Long Grain Rice
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Clear-drying Gel Glue (such as Bostik Clear Gel)
Instructions:
1. Trace the rose onto the watercolor paper.
2. Draw the outlines of the rose with the black crayon.
3. Use the 10/32” brush and dark blue, purple and dark pink paint to give the whole piece of watercolor paper a wash.
4. Add rice all around the rose while the paint is still wet, and drip spots of dark pink watercolor paint over the rice.
5. Allow the paint and rice to dry thoroughly.
6. Remove the rice by rubbing lightly over the paint with your finger.
7. Use a slightly wet 5/32” paint brush to add some detail to the rose:
a. Highlight certain parts of the rose petals with the light blue and light pink paint.
b. Use the black paint to add shadows to some parts of the rose petals.
c. Add a dash of green paint to the stem of the rose.
d. Use the white acrylic paint to add some highlights to the rose petals and stem of the rose.
8. Cut the watercolor paper to a size of 5.1” x 4.4”.
9. Score the light blue marbled cardstock in half to create a card sized 5.6” x 5.1”.
10. With the fold at the top, “frame” the card with the Washi tape.
11. Center and glue the piece of handmade paper to the front of the card.
12. Center and glue the rose picture to the front of the card.
